In the social media age it is perhaps the greatest insult one can possibly bestow - the defriending of a former "friend" on Facebook.
For some the loss of a single "friend" is treated with all the pain and trauma of losing a dearly loved pet.
And so what? if the last time you paid them any attention was three years ago - and you can barely remember their name.
But with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of "friends" how can you possibly find out if one has shown such poor judgment as to leave your hallowed circle - short of bothering to look them up yourselves?
Such problems (and yes, for some this is a problem) are now at an end with the invention of a new app that tells you who has unfriended you, the Mirror Online reports .
Thirteen years and more than one billion people later, Facebook has not only altered the way we communicate, it’s also transformed businesses, impacted relationships and given us all with a handy way to creep on ex-partners and friends of friends.
But as much as Facebook enables us to connect with people, the social network also has the power to, well, make us feel a little bad about ourselves.
For example, should you notice your friend count looks like it’s decreased, this may cause anxiety.
How can I find out if someone has unfriended me?
To keep a track of your friends, Who Deleted Me will keep an eye on who’s on your list and will send you a notification should someone decide, it’s not them, it’s you.
And this is how it works....
After you first login, it assesses your current list of connections and whenever you revisit it, it compares the updated list to the previous one.
You’re then not only informed who’s missing, but it also tells you whether they’ve simply deactivated their account, or deleted you.
But Who Deleted Me isn’t just the harbinger of doom.
It will also tell you who you are making connections with as well as who you’ve deleted.
While it might seem a little masochistic to go scrabbling for this kind of information, if you’re feeling up to uncovering some uncomfortable truths, Who Deleted Me is free on Chrome and Firefox internet browsers as a plug-in, as well as Android and Apple mobile devices.
