Did you know Facebook allows users to change their display names, and even add alternate names to their accounts? Our guide will show you how to complete both actions in the Facebook mobile application. Note: These screenshots were captured in the Facebook app on iOS.
Step 1: Tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap “Settings.”
Step 3: Tap “Account Settings.”
Step 4: Tap “General.”
Step 5: Tap “Name.”
The next step depends on whether you need to change your display name or add another name to your account.
To change your default display name, tap on the “First Name,” “Middle Name” and/or “Last Name” fields to make any necessary changes. Tap “Review Change” to preview your new name. You’ll be able to decide how your name appears on your profile, in terms of whether your last name is listed second or first, and you’ll need to enter your password to confirm your change(s).
To add an additional name to your account, tap “Add a nickname, a birth name …” under the “Other Names” heading.
While “Nickname” is the default option, you can add a different kind of name by tapping on “Nickname” and selecting the correct name type in the list that appears (Maiden Name, Alternate Spelling, etc.). Once you type the name, you can decide whether this name will be shown at the top of your profile, and then tap “Save” to add the name to your account.
Lastly, you can also add “Other Names” to your account by tapping on the three horizontal lines in the bottom-right corner of the app’s screen, tapping on your name to view your profile, tapping “Edit About” under your profile picture, and tapping “Add a nickname, a birth name …” under the “Other Names” heading.
