Figuring out how to upload multiple photos to Facebook at the same time can be perplexing, particularly if you want to upload more than one photo to Facebook and have them all appear in the same status update.
For a long time, Facebook didn't allow users to upload more than one photo at the same time using the status update field. To upload several photos, you first had to create a photo album. Posting to a photo album has its own challenges, but it's definitely the best option for batch uploading photos to the social network.
Fortunately, Facebook eventually changed its photo uploader to allow you to click and upload multiple photos in the same status update without creating an album. So if you're only posting a few images, this is a fine option. If you have many images to post, it's still a good idea to create an album. You can post multiple images to Facebook from your computer in your favorite browser or from your mobile device using the Facebook app.
Posting Multiple Photos With Status Updates in a Computer Browser
To post multiple photos in a Facebook status field on your Facebook Timeline or News Feed:
- Click Photo/Video in the status field either before or after you type a status, but before you click Post.
- Navigate through your computer's drive and click on an image to highlight it. To select multiple images, hold down the Shift or Command key on a Mac or the Ctrl key on a PC while you click on multiple images to post. Each image should be highlighted.
- Click Open.
- A large Facebook status update box reappears showing thumbnails of the images you selected. If you want to write something about your photos and have that text appear with them in the update, write a message in the status box.
- Click the box with the plus sign in it to add additional photos to this post.
- Hover the mouse cursor over a thumbnail to either delete or edit a photo before posting it.
- Review the other options available in the screen. Among them are options to tag friends, apply stickers, add your feelings/activity, and check in.
- When you're ready, click Post.
When you use this method, only the first five images show up in your friends' News Feeds. They'll see a number with a plus sign indicating there are additional photos to view. Clicking it takes them to the other photos. If you plan to upload more than five photos, usually a Facebook album is a better choice.
Adding Multiple Photos to a Facebook Album
The best way to post a large number of photos to Facebook is to create a photo album, upload multiple photos to that album, and then publish the album cover image in the status update. Your friends click on the album link and are taken to the photos.
- Go to the status update box as if you were going to write an update.
- Click Photo/Video Album at the top of the update box.
- Navigate through your computer's drive and click on each image to highlight it. To select multiple images, hold down the Shift or Command key on a Mac or the Ctrl key on a PC while you click on multiple images to post to the album. Each image should be highlighted.
- Click Open.
- An album preview screen opens with thumbnails of the chosen images and gives you the opportunity to add text to each photo and to include a location for the photos. Click the large plus sign to add additional photos to the album.
- In the left pane, give the new album a name and description and view the other available options.
- After you've made your choices, click the Post button.
Posting Multiple Photos With the Facebook App
The process of posting more than one photo with a status is similar when using the Facebook app for mobile devices.
- Tap the Facebook app to open it.
- In the status field at the top of the News Feed, tap Photo.
- Tap the thumbnails of the photos you want to add to the status.
- Use the Done button to open the preview screen.
- Add text to your status post, if you want, and select from the other options.
- Note that one of those options is +Album, which is the best choice if you have many images to upload. If you tap it, you can give the album a name and select more photos.
- Tap Share and your status update with the photos is posted to Facebook.
